The Audrain County Bridge Department is responsible for bridge replacement and all the maintenance work done to the bridges.
The bridges are replaced according to the five year plan that was presented when the Bridge Tax was approved in April 2004. Each year we work in different parts of the county. For example, in 2008. we are working in the western part of the county and around spring 2009, we will be in the eastern part of the county. We will be adding updates to which bridge we’ll be working on and what roads that will be closed, if any.
Scheduled bridge projects by the county crew for 2008: bridges # 069, 140, 149, 152, 028, 027and 023.
The county will hire contractors to rebuild/repair the following bridges in 2008: #228.
The Audrain County Road District is made up of five different Road Districts:
- #1 Road District
- #13 Road District
- Vandalia Special Road District
- Laddonia-Farber Special Road District
- Saling #2 Special Road District
Although Audrain County #1 Road District is responsible for most of the roads, the other districts are responsible for their roads. Each district is responsible for keeping up the maintenance on their roads. For a fee we also install driveway pipes and field entrance pipes for the customers.
Each year around March we start taking applications for Dust Control. It is ususally put on the roads around May. This is only done once a year — applications can be obtained in the office at 101 N. Jefferson Rm. 206, and need to be returned by April. There will be exact dates given as soon as they come in.
