The public administrator works with the probate court and takes custody of all estates left unattended in the county. Such estates may arise when a person dies without a personal representative present. The public administrator has the authority to bring about all suits and prosecutions necessary to protect and recover any money, property, papers or other estate left exposed to loss, damage, waste or neglect. The administrator may also be charged with the duty of ex officio public conservator for the care of minors less than fourteen years of age and their estate left due to the death of their parents or guardians.
